Can science prove the existence of God?

Many say: ‘evolution is a scientific fact’ (it claims to explain the origin of life scientifically). If God (who says that He is the only Creator of the universe and therefore the origin of life), is real, where are the proofs that the creation account is true? Both creation by God or by evolutionary processes happened in the past. Sciences like Biology and Physics are observable, testable, repeatable, and therefore cannot prove the Person of God. But let us allow science to judge these two claims of the origin of life. That should make it possible to come to a decision - was life started naturally by evolutionary processes or was it created by the God of the Bible? Science will function as our judge.

1. God says that he created according to kinds. Animals, birds, insects, fishes and reptiles exist in kinds, meaning that a dog will remain a dog, a giraffe a giraffe, et cetera. This is observed around us. Animals do not breed outside their species. It is called ‘fixity of species’. Evolution claims that all life, plants and animals have the same ancestor, and all are related. Can this be verified and seen around us? There are no examples of small changes that could cause one specie to change into another. Most of the examples that evolutionists use are adaptations or mutations within species. Adaptations are accepted by and well known facts to breeders of animals and plants. Mutations lose information and do not gain it so that they can give rise to higher life forms. For evolution to prove its premise (that one specie developed into another by a myriad of small steps over millions of years), the fossil record should show in-between animals or plants (transitions between species) as they evolved. The fossil record has given precious few proofs of transitions. No evidence of species changing has ever been observed, except as guesses described as facts, in books (see the changing of a land animal into a whale in E Mayer, What Evolution is, Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 2001, p 17). Archaeopterix is regarded by some evolutionists as a true transitional, but others dispute it and declare that it is just a true bird (D Gish, Evolution: The Fossils still say No!, ICR, 1995, p 129-141). There is also absolutely no proof whatsoever that dinosaurs changed into birds, except through artistic representations.

To date, it is a fact that the species boundary cannot be transgressed. After hundreds of years of breeding with dogs, there are many varieties of dogs. But they remain dogs, and it has been impossible to even begin to change them into another species. Without new information in the DNA of a species, no new kind can evolve. Information tells a dog to develop into a dog and act like a dog. This information is neither matter nor energy (W Gitt, In the Beginning was Information, CLV, 1994, p 46). It is something more than Naturalism (everything develops naturally). It had to be programmed into every living organism by a Higher Intelligence. Information cannot develop out of nothing to cause new or varied life forms as evolution would have us believe. Therefore science does not prove God, but examination and observation of nature do show that the Bible’s account of creation is more credibly science or truth than evolution’s account of how life developed.

2. God says that He created all life. Evolution says that life began spontaneously. The problem of abiogenesis (the hypothetical process by which living organisms first arose on earth from non-living matter - Collins Dictionary) has not yet been scientifically verified. The sheer complexity of living things makes spontaneous generation improbable. Scientists are trying with the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) to prove if life on earth could not have started from outer space. To date all attempts have failed. The life source from outside our earth is God himself. Here again, science does not prove God, but it definitely has not proven that life could have begun without Him.

3. God says that he created man with the ability to communicate in language. We do not see animals who seem to be developing language. There have been attempts to teach chimpanzees to talk, but they had very limited success. The animals could only remember symbols or words for actions and forgot these quickly, if they were not repeated regularly. They could not construct abstract ideas. There is no proof that language evolved.

Conclusion: Has God been proven scientifically? No. But it has been illustrated that evolution does not have concrete, scientific proofs. It has to rely on deductions and speculations of how it took place. Both claim to be about origins. It is left to each individual to investigate the claims, make a decision, and live with the decision, since only one is right. Eternity is a long time to live with the wrong decision.
