What good is a powerless God?

Many people assert that God cannot do miracles. They claim that the historical reports of God’s miraculous interventions in people’s and nation’s lives are not scientific and therefore not true. For example, they say that an axe head floating (2 Kings 6:1-7), or a man in the stomach of a big fish for three days (Jonah 1:17; 2:10), is nonsense. The question is: are infidels (people who reject belief in Jesus Christ and the Bible) competent to give an opinion? Without the Holy Spirit (and He will not dwell in unbelievers), no person can give a correct evaluation of the Bible.
Of what use is faith in a God who cannot do extraordinary miracles? The message of the Bible is that God is offering an eternity on the renewed, perfect earth for anyone who wishes to accept his provision: this is hardly something that a human being can do. Unless we have a powerful, miracle working God, such a promise cannot be realized.
Furthermore if God cannot do miracles, why believe in Him? Man can build magnificent sky scrapers, or create wonderful electronic devices. We need not depend on God for that, because He gave man the abilities to do those things. We, however, cannot resurrect people, give them glorious new bodies, or establish an eternal home where there will be no more tears, death, or pain (Revelation 21 and 22). God is not interested in doing things human beings can do. He is showing us things no human being can do. These give us hope and faith in His plans for a glorious future.
God is the powerful, miraculous Person demonstrated in Genesis 1:1 with the creation of the heavens and the earth. From Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 the whole Bible is filled with God’s miracles. The Bible’s record of God’s supernatural acts, is proof that the Word of God is not the product of man, but of God. If His Book was the product of men, why would all the examples of God’s omnipotence work together towards one goal: God is preparing a country, a city for His people (Hebrews 11:10,14,16,40). Only the inspiration of the Holy Spirit can produce such a powerful Book. We are blessed to have it.
No person is forced to believe the Bible, nevertheless they try to discredit it as well as the God it reveals. These people’s intention is to destroy your faith to be with God eternally. Such is the hateful influence of the devil over men. It is our duty to pray for such people, since they do not know what they are doing. At the same time we can disregard unbelievers’ opinions about the Bible and God’s power. Arguments like the impossibility of an axe head floating are worthless when seen in the light of God’s much greater miracles.
Reading about a miracle like raising the dead, we should understand we have a God who can do what He promises.
