The miracle they seldom mention

Critics often refer to the impossibility of miracles like an axe head floating, Jesus walking on water, corpses brought to life, and others. Yet there is one miracle that is often overlooked. It is that in the beginning of time God created the heavens and the earth.
At the end of time God will again recreate (renew) the heavens and the earth. The difference between the two creations is stark: In the last one, what we know as laws of nature will cease: there will be no sun, no sea, no death, no decay, no illness, no pain, no tears, but only happiness and joy for millions of years. The earth will remain fertile and fruit will ripen monthly. There will be no ozone destruction, or depletion of natural reserves and no extinction of species.

That is impossible, most people could say. It is a myth and pure fantasy. Those who think like that, must consider the following:

  • The Jewish nation. They are God’s nation, created by God, taken to Canaan, and then scattered and ill treated over thousands of years. They came back to their country from which they had been banished by the Romans in 132 AD. Even their ancient language, Hebrew, was revived. Which other nation has ever endured such bad treatment and yet has survived? Today they are living under the hostility of the Arabs who have waged 4 major wars against them since 1948. It is not an oil rich, large prosperous country. Why the hostility?
  • The church. It is God’s creation. From a tiny following of 12 disciples, it has spread all over the world, and penetrates even the veil of Islam. From its beginning, there were hostile forces against it. Yet it survives and grows. Why the hostility?
  • The Bible, our source about God. It is a product of God, and has been around for almost 2000 years. It is a book with a wonderful record of changing individuals’ and nations’ characters. There is no subversive message in it, yet it is constantly reviled. Why the hostility?

In all three cases we can trace the origin of the hostility to a common spirit who influences people to hate God, the Bible, the church and Israel. This spirit is the invisible ruler of darkness, who inspires people to do his will (2 Timothy 2:26). Most people who hate God, the Bible and the church don’t even know the content of the Bible, and have no real reason for their aggression, yet they hate passionately. What reasons do these people proffer to justify their aggression and hatred towards an invisible God? None, as most of them have such a warped idea about God, they do not know Him at all.

It is totally irrational that people can hate a book about God and His plan for man which supposedly is only myths. Nobody is consumed by mythical tales, like those of the brothers Grimm. Yet in the case of the Bible, they not only take offense, they actively oppose it. Somewhere something doesn’t make sense. The only conclusion we come to is that the message of the Bible, with its promised destination of bliss and happiness, is the truth. Those who love the Lord, can rejoice and take heart. The miracle of the new heaven and earth will be much better than the description. Take heart and trust the book of all books.
