Atheists and Christ

If there is one big difference between Jesus Christ and Mohammed it is that atheists will seldom dare to attack or slur the character of Mohammed. They are too afraid of the backlash, since Mohammed is defended through the violence of his supporters. For the believer in Christ, there is no such command in the Bible. When Jesus was on the cross, He was insulted and mocked. That type of behaviour has never stopped as demonstrated by the latest billboard in Times Square, New York city. It reads: 'Keep the merry! Dump the myth' with a smiling santa next to the 'merry' and a suffering Jesus on the cross, next to the 'myth.'
Remember the following:
In our lifetime nobody has seen Jesus. We only know about Him through the Bible, which tell us that He is the Son of God, the Saviour of the world. Outside the revelation in the Bible, there is only one who is very well aware of who Jesus is. He is the devil (and his angels). When Jesus was on earth and confronted evil spirits in people, they immediately knew who He was. For example, a man who was possessed by a demon said: 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are - the Holy One of God' (Luke 4:33-34). On the other hand, when Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was, Peter answered: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God' (Matthew 16:16). To this Jesus replied: '....this was not revealed to you by man, but by My Father in heaven' (Matthew 16:17).
We can deduct from the two examples that information about who and what Jesus is, must come from the invisible, real world of God. The Bible tells us about the Holy Spirit and the enemy of God, the devil under whose control the whole world is (1 John 5:19b). He continually foments hatred against Jesus. So anybody who claims that Jesus is a myth, or utters other derogatory or insulting words against Him, can only be influenced by the invisible enemy of God. Likewise anybody who claims or testifies that Jesus is the Son of God can only do it under the influence of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3). Thus people are either influenced by the Holy Spirit to acknowledge and exalt Jesus, or influenced to be against Him and deride Him. That would mean atheists who designed the campaign against Jesus, in Times Square, are influenced by unholy spirits. If we are to be Biblical, we have to say they are demon possessed, or demonised. It is a strange thing to say about educated, civil people who are often highly successful and influential. Unfortunately it is the truth, because only the Bible accurately describes what happens in society and this battle has been going on since the time of Jesus (Matthew 27:27-30, 39,41-44).
The question is, why do atheists go to such trouble to spread their message of meaninglessness? Is Jesus a threat to society? Was He the one who instigated the murder at the school in Connecticut? No, since His message has always been one of peace. What then motivates atheists to spend time and money to oppose Jesus? It could only be the presence of evil spirits in their lives. They influence and sometimes even control people to believe that it will give them peace of mind if they deny the eventual sanctifying work of Jesus. That does not lead to peace. It leads them to inherit the same abode as the devil - the eternal lake of fire. They can of course escape it, but when they become infused with the rebellious spirit of the devil, they refuse the way of escape. They will not bow before Jesus and acknowledge Him as King, because they prefer their 'independence.' Yet that really means that they are controlled by the devil to do his will, namely to spread the message of hell.
To summarise: it is the work of atheists to deride the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross as a myth. We might get angry at the insults levelled at Jesus, but it is a very excellent contemporary proof that the Bible is true, that Jesus is the Son of God who came to save sinners from the eternal lake of burning sulphur, and that those who submit to Him will be with Him eternally. Since Jesus is the Creator of the Universe, the eternal King, He can handle the opposition. We should only be encouraged by such an open display of the reality of Jesus, and be more motivated to stay true to Him.
