Where will good people spend eternity?

According to the Bible there are new heavens and a new earth where God’s eternal kingdom will exist in peace and harmony (Rev 21-22). And there is the lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt 25:41) where everyone whose name is not in the Book of Life will end (Rev 20:15).

So the question is if good people will automatically be accepted by God to spend eternity with him? The answer is that the standard of entrance into God’s kingdom is not good works (Ef 2:8-9). Because that would discriminate against the less disciplined. It is like the hunk and the nerd: In this life the one has an advantage over the other. But with God they both have the same opportunity to come into his family. No human being can ever achieve the perfect life that God requires for the subjects of his eternal kingdom (Matt 5:48). It cannot be achieved by: Attending church every Sunday and listening to a sermon; keeping a set of religious, man-made rules; giving up dreams and goals; doing charity work.

God planned a peaceful, prosperous, productive society, for all eternity. To achieve it he planned it as follows:

  • He requires loyalty to God, as King of the eternal kingdom, from his subjects. Therefore the message of the Bible is very clear, “There is only one God” (Deutr 5:7).

  • There is no preferential treatment. God gives all people the same opportunity of sharing in His future Utopia. He cannot be unfair. He accomplished this by seeing to it that all people are offspring of Adam and Eve, tainted by their rebellion against Him. This was caused by an angel - the devil, whom God allowed to bring a message directly opposed to his message (Gen 2:16-17 & 3:4). The first man and woman chose to believe the devil and immediately jealousy, anger, hate and murder entered the earth (Gen 4:1-12). So all mankind is born into this present kingdom of the devil who is the ruler of this world system (Eph 2:1-3 & 1 John 5:19). God then provided a way out, but not by man’s intelligence or physical prowess, because that would once again give certain gifted people an advantage.

  • The way out is as follows: God provided his Son to save man. Jesus Christ came to die for man’s sins; to give man back the nature of God that he lost (2 Cor 5:21). He came to destroy the devil’s work (1 John 3:8). It is a gift so that no one can complain or boast. Jesus Christ, is accepted or rejected, by faith. (Many people object to the term faith, but it is seen daily. Without any objective, scientific proofs, millions believe in evolution through faith in either Darwin’s or some evolutionist’s opinion.)

  • Everyone who believes the message, is to be filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered by Jesus to live a life God desires. It is never by one’s own strength. God was betrayed by the devil in heaven, Jesus by Judas on earth, so God will make sure we are loyal to Him. We are trained here on earth to be loyal to God. We are to live as Jesus lived.

The question, “Where will good people spend eternity?”, is not answered by their good lifestyle, but by their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In His Kingdom there are no special empowerment actions. It is all through Jesus Christ, by grace.
